US Stocks Rise Despite Oil Price Concerns and Fed Uncertainty
The US stock market opened higher on Thursday despite concerns over rising oil prices and tensions between the US and Iran. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 392 points, while the S&P 500 gained 0.53% and the Nasdaq Composite was up 0.63%. Brent crude futures increased by 1.22%, extending their gains to a fourth consecutive session.
The rising energy prices have added to concerns about inflation and higher interest rates. The market is also watching developments around the Federal Reserve, with traders increasing expectations for a September rate hike over the past week. However, these expectations eased after Fed Governor Christopher Waller indicated support for keeping rates unchanged if upcoming inflation data does not surprise.
Corporate earnings provided mixed signals for investors. Broadcom shares fell 5.6% after the company issued a fourth-quarter revenue forecast that fell short of Wall Street expectations. In contrast, Snowflake's shares surged over 21% after reporting better-than-expected second-quarter earnings and revenue.
