US Tourism Sector Aims to Win Back Canadian Visitors After Significant Decline
The US tourism sector is making a concerted effort to win back Canadian visitors after a significant decline in travel from Canada to the US. According to Statistics Canada, total spending by Canadians on trips to the US decreased by $3.3 billion CAD in 2025, falling to $18.8 billion CAD.
New York State launched special campaigns to attract Canadian tourists, including discounts of up to 30% at participating hotels and tourist attractions under the 'Northern Neighbour Deal' program. Meanwhile, Las Vegas implemented a 'Vegas At Par' campaign that accepted 1 Canadian dollar as equivalent to 1 US dollar for certain expenses.
State and city tourism organizations in the US have increased their promotional efforts targeting the Canadian market in recent months, with Brand USA planning to bring its Travel Week event to Canada for the first time in October. However, despite these efforts, the Canadian market has not yet fully recovered, with a partial recovery observed only in the summer of 2026.
