US Treasury Liquidity Buyback Expands, Boosting Pound Sterling
The Pound Sterling (GBP) has received a boost from the US Treasury Department's decision to double its liquidity support buyback operations for longer-dated nominal coupon securities.
This move effectively increases bond market liquidity, weakening the US Dollar and making the GBP more attractive against it. As a result, the GBP/USD exchange rate has seen an upward movement.
The technical indicators are also in favor of the Pound, with key moving averages above its current price, indicating a strong technical posture.
However, some caution is advised as overbought conditions have been reached, and a break above $1.3677 would signal further upside potential.
