US Treasury Yield Breaks 5% Barrier as Oil Prices Surge
The yield on the 10-year US Treasury note has risen above 5% for the first time in three years, breaking above the 5% threshold. This development comes as global oil prices have jumped to their highest levels in four months, adding to inflationary pressures facing Federal Reserve policymakers.
The rise in the yield on the 10-year US Treasury note has been significant, reaching a fresh three-year high of 5.012%. This marks its sixth consecutive session of gains and extends the trend of rising interest rates in the United States.
Markets are currently pricing in an 86% probability that the Federal Reserve will raise US interest rates by 25 basis points this week to counter mounting inflationary pressures. The Federal Reserve begins its monetary policy meeting on Tuesday, with its decision due on Wednesday.
