US Treasury Yields Soar Amid Oil Price Surge and Warsh's Hawkish Remarks
A broad selloff in US Treasuries pushed the 10-year yield above 4.75% during trading Monday, its highest level in 19 months.
The surge was fueled by surging oil prices and Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's hawkish remarks, which raised the prospect of further interest rate hikes.
Oil prices added to the pressure on bonds, with international crude soaring nearly 3% to an intraday high after President Donald Trump signaled the possibility of further strikes against Iran.
The 10-year Treasury yield surged past 4.75% intraday Monday, reaching its highest level since January last year, while the 30-year yield rose 5 basis points to 5.26%.
