US Unleashes Operation Economic Outcast on Iran
The US government has launched 'Operation Economic Outcast', a new sanctions campaign targeting Iran's remaining international economic ties. The White House announced on August 24 that the operation would target five sectors: digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping.
According to the statement, the goal of Operation Economic Outcast is to sever Iran's links with the global economy by imposing new sectoral sanctions determinations in these key areas. Businesses that continue to deal with Iran may face increased secondary sanctions risk, while entities facilitating money laundering on Iran's behalf could be removed from the US dollar system.
