USD Bulls Hesitant as Hormuz Optimism Boosts JPY
The Japanese Yen (JPY) is edging higher against the US Dollar (USD), as optimism over a potential US-Iran peace deal and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz offsets expectations for at least one interest rate hike by the US Federal Reserve (Fed) in 2026.
This development has put USD bulls on the defensive, capping the slightly hot US inflation data-led USD move up. The US Commerce Department reported that the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Price Index rose 3.7% over the 12 months in July, unchanged from the previous month and slightly above consensus estimates.
Traders are awaiting Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's speech on Friday for more cues about the future policy path, which will play a key role in influencing near-term USD price dynamics.
