USD/CAD Consolidation Continues Ahead of Key Employment Data

The USD/CAD exchange rate has been consolidating within a bullish flag pattern after its recent rally to 1.4247.

This consolidation is expected to continue ahead of the release of July labor market data from both the U.S. and Canada, with markets closely watching the employment figures as a key catalyst for the pair's movement.

Danske Bank analysts expect nonfarm payrolls in the U.S. to increase by approximately 70,000, while FactSet median estimate stands at around 97,500. A stronger-than-expected reading could reinforce expectations for a Federal Reserve rate hike in September and boost USD/CAD.

The Bank of Canada's policy rate remains at a low level, with markets broadly expecting it to stay on hold through the remainder of 2026. This contrasts with the Federal Reserve's potential tightening path and provides a key fundamental underpinning for USD/CAD strength over the medium term.
