USD/IDR Traders Face Bearish Bias as Risk Aversion Weighs on Asia FX
The US dollar (USD) against the Indonesian rupiah (IDR) has been trading near 17,850 after pulling back from its moving averages. This consolidation phase is indicated by a rectangle formation on the daily chart.
Despite the modest gains in the previous day, the pair's technical analysis suggests a bearish near-term bias due to being capped beneath both the nine-period and 50-period Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs). The clustering of these short- and medium-term EMAs above price implies that topside attempts are vulnerable.
The US dollar has been gaining strength as risk aversion weighs on Asia FX, strategists at UOB Group note. They highlight that renewed caution in global markets has reinforced demand for the Dollar, leaving regional currencies on the back foot.
