USD Index Holds Steady Ahead of Crucial Nonfarm Payrolls Report
The US Dollar Index (DXY) has remained steady near 100.00 as traders await the release of the Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP) report, which is expected to provide cues about the Federal Reserve's policy path. The recent developments in the Middle East crisis have led to a rise in oil prices and heightened geopolitical risks, prompting traders to price in a premium for safe-haven assets like the US Dollar.
Reports suggest that some Iraqi militia factions, along with Yemen's Iran-backed Houthis, are planning to attack Saudi Arabia. This has led to increased tensions in the region, causing oil prices to rise and reviving inflation fears. As a result, US bond yields have surged, further supporting the value of the US Dollar.
Bullish traders appear hesitant to place aggressive bets on the DXY, waiting for more clarity from the NFP report before making any significant moves. The outlook for the report remains uncertain, with many factors influencing its outcome. Nevertheless, the DXY seems poised to register modest weekly gains, pending a break above the 100-day Simple Moving Average (SMA) at 99.74.
The current situation is seen as mildly bullish, with the DXY respecting the dynamic floor established by the SMA after recovering from recent sub-99.80 lows. A close above this moving average would keep the path open for further recovery, while a decisive break below 99.74 could indicate a deeper corrective phase.
