USD/JPY Consolidates Around Mid-163 Yen as Middle East Tensions Ease
The USD/JPY pair is expected to consolidate around the mid-163 yen level in the Tokyo foreign exchange market on Monday, July 27th. The unwinding of safe-haven dollar buying, driven by Middle East geopolitical risks, is progressing as tensions ease.
Over the weekend, reports of a halt to US military strikes against Iran and restrained retaliation from the Iranian side led to a rapid decline in investors' risk-aversion stance. This caused the pair to dip to 163.546 yen shortly after the market opened.
The forecast range for USD/JPY is between 163.00 and 164.00 yen per dollar, according to the Tokyo market outlook compiled by Wealth Advisor. Analysts note that while expectations of resumed US-Iran negotiations may cap dollar upside, the uncertainty surrounding the Middle East situation still makes aggressive yen buying unlikely.
Economic indicators scheduled for release on July 27th, including Japan's June Corporate Services Price Index and the May revised Leading Economic Index, could provide clues for market direction. However, with monetary policy meetings in Japan and the US also upcoming, a wait-and-see mood is spreading among market participants.
