USD/JPY Hits Fresh 40-Year High Amid Yen's Continued Decline
The USD/JPY currency pair has reached a fresh 40-year high of 163.81, marking a significant milestone in its strengthening trend. Despite repeated warnings from Japanese officials about potential intervention, the yen continues to decline amid a broad strengthening of the US dollar.
Japanese Finance Minister's statement that authorities are ready to take decisive action seems to have fallen on deaf ears, as markets remain largely unresponsive. Reports suggesting the Bank of Japan may allow a faster pace of rate hikes than expected also failed to provide support for the yen.
The yen is facing additional pressure from concerns over Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's fiscal policy and the escalating US-Iran conflict. Japan's heavy dependence on energy imports makes its economy and trade balance particularly vulnerable to rising oil prices.
