USD/JPY Pairs Slumps as Joint Intervention Bolsters Japanese Yen
The Japanese Yen has strengthened against the US Dollar after a coordinated currency intervention by the United States and Japan. The USD/JPY pair is trading near 157.65, with many experts predicting further gains for the JPY.
This move follows comments from Japan's Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama, who confirmed that Tokyo and Washington had conducted joint Yen-buying intervention to address the currency's weakness. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also stated that the US would not hesitate to intervene again if necessary.
The Bank of Japan is expected to consider a rate hike in September, with implied odds rising to 60% following stronger-than-expected wage data. This could provide further support for the JPY and limit losses for the Greenback.
