The Japanese yen's value is not being driven by changes in interest rates, as evidenced by the JGB-US Treasury rate differentials, which have been relatively stable recently. The differential between 2-year rates has dipped to a recent low of 250 bps, while the 10-year differential has risen slightly from its recent lows to 181 bps.
The IMM CTA (Intermarket Memorial Committee for Trading and Analysis) yen shorts have increased by 10.8K contracts to 52,088, indicating that market participants are still bullish on the Japanese currency. Meanwhile, Japanese exporters are likely to continue absorbing any demand from importers.
