USD/JPY Surges Towards Key 160.00 Level Amid Yen Weakness
The USD/JPY currency pair has broken into positive territory, climbing to 159.53 on Thursday and putting pressure on the Japanese yen to continue its weakening trend.
This move is significant because it brings the pair closer to the key level of 160.00, which could trigger further intervention by the Bank of Japan amid persistent currency weakness.
Fundamental factors are weighing heavily on the yen, including a wide interest rate differential between the US and Japan, rising fiscal risks, and elevated energy and import costs.
The yen failed to benefit from softer US inflation data, which reduced pressure on the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates. Instead, the Bank of Japan's summary of opinions from its July meeting noted growing risks of accelerating inflation, with one board member suggesting that the pace of rate hikes could quicken.
