USD/JPY Volatility Ahead of Fed Chair Warsh's Jackson Hole Speech
The US dollar has been experiencing mixed trading over the past couple of days, as traders have been taking profits and hedging ahead of today's speech by Fed Chair Warsh at Jackson Hole.
While Warsh is not expected to provide forward guidance, traders will be closely watching his tone regarding recent easing in financial conditions following the Treasury buyback announcement and Bessent's verbal intervention to suppress long-term yields. If he leans against this trend, it could lead to renewed pressure on the US dollar from further easing in financial conditions and dovish repricing of near-term interest rate expectations.
On the other hand, if Warsh pushes back, saying that recent easing threatens progress toward price stability, the market may retighten financial conditions and give the greenback a boost. The Japanese yen continues to stay under pressure due to lack of changes on the fundamental side, with the BoJ rate hike in September largely priced in.
