USD Strengthens as Safe-Haven Demand Grows Amid US-Iran Tensions
The US Dollar has strengthened as safe-haven demand increases amid ongoing geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran. The USD/CHF pair rose to around 0.8090 on Monday, after experiencing a 0.5% decline in the previous trading day.
The escalating conflict has led investors to seek refuge in the US Dollar, which is considered a safe-haven asset due to its perceived stability and strong export sector. In contrast, the Swiss Franc has weakened, with analysts at OCBC noting that carry trade funding demand is growing and the SNB appears comfortable with a weaker currency.
The drop in nonfarm payrolls by 23,000 in July also contributed to the US Dollar's gain, as it highlighted weakening labor market conditions. However, investors are now focused on upcoming inflation reports for further clues on monetary policy, which may influence interest rates and the value of the Swiss Franc.
