USDA Reports Stagnant Wool Trading, Decreased Lamb Retail Activity
The USDA Agricultural Marketing Service released its weekly market data bundle for lamb, goat, veal, and wool on July 24, 2026. According to the reports, domestic wool trading recorded no confirmed trades during the current week. The National Wool Review showed that Australian wool prices are quoted in US dollars per pound delivered to Charleston, South Carolina, with a current exchange rate of 0.6999 Australian dollars to one US dollar.
The AWEX Eastern Market Indicator was quoted at 1.74 to 1.98 Australian dollars per kilogram, while the total volume of domestic greasy wool reported was zero pounds. In the wool market, prices reflect trades FOB warehouse in original bag or square pack, bellies out, some graded, and 76 millimeters or longer.
For lamb retail activity, the Feature Rate decreased by 0.7 percent compared to the previous week, while the Activity Index decreased by 21.8 percent. Nationally, conventional fresh leg shank was advertised at a weighted average of 8.99 dollars per pound, and conventional fresh loin chops at 13.99 dollars per pound.
Goat retail activity saw an increase in featured items, with stew meat being the primary item featured. In the Southeast region, 133 stores advertised conventional fresh goat stew meat at a weighted average price of 4.23 dollars per pound. Veal was too lightly tested to report a trend, but conventional fresh leg cutlets were advertised at a weighted average price of 19.99 dollars per pound in the Northeast region.
