Venezuela Demands Gold Release Amid Devastating Earthquake Aftermath
Venezuela is seeking to recover $4 billion in gold reserves held by the Bank of England, citing the need for funds to rebuild after a devastating earthquake.
The country's acting President Delcy Rodríguez has called on King Charles to release the gold, which has been locked away due to concerns over the legitimacy of Nicolas Maduro's election.
Venezuela's central bank reported that the earthquakes contributed to a 19.9% inflation rate in July, with year-on-year inflation standing at 575.9%. The government estimates that up to 6.8 million people have been affected by the disaster, including over 1.8 million in need of humanitarian assistance.
