Venezuela Seeks $4.4 Billion Gold Haul for Earthquake Reconstruction
Venezuela's ruling party and opposition have put aside their differences to seek the return of $4.4 billion in gold stored at the Bank of England.
The move aims to fund reconstruction efforts after a devastating earthquake in June that killed over 6,000 people and caused widespread damage.
According to the Financial Times, the gold has been inaccessible since 2018 due to a dispute between Venezuela's central bank leaderships recognized by the UK and the US-backed opposition leader Juan Guaidó.
