VGAD ETF: Currency-Hedging Mechanism Sets It Apart in Global Markets
The Vanguard MSCI Index International Shares (Hedged) ETF (ASX: VGAD) offers Australian investors broad exposure to global developed-market shares, but with a currency-hedging twist.
This fund aims to track the return of the MSCI World ex-Australia Index (with net dividends reinvested), hedged into Australian dollars before fees and expenses. It holds over 1,000 holdings across large and mid-sized companies in developed markets and overlays foreign-exchange forwards to neutralize most currency effects.
The fund charges a management fee of 0.21% per annum and pays distributions half-yearly. The hedging is the defining feature, as it removes the effect of currency movements on performance, isolating the underlying equity return.
