Vietnam-Canada Science Tech Ties Poised for Takeoff
Science and technology cooperation is set to become a new pillar in Vietnam-Canada relations. A recent meeting between the Vietnam Science and Technology Representative Office in Canada and the Canadian Vietnamese Scholars and Experts Network (CVSE) highlighted the potential for collaboration, particularly in clean energy and aerospace.
The two countries have already built a foundation in politics, economy, education, and people-to-people exchanges. However, to move forward with concrete projects, they need to identify areas of cooperation that can produce results quickly, establish co-funding mechanisms, and leverage the resources and expertise of the Vietnamese community in Canada.
According to CVSE Chairman Assoc. Prof. Vu Viet Hung, clean energy is an area where Vietnam can immediately collaborate with Canada. He noted that Canada has strengths in clean technology, energy efficiency, environmental technology, and emissions reduction solutions, which aligns with Vietnam's needs for energy transition, lower production costs, and climate adaptation.
Le Quoc Dung, head of the representative office in Canada, emphasized the need for specific pilot projects such as 'green factories' or 'green agricultural processing' facilities within 18 months. Vietnamese firms could provide sites and identify needs while Canadian companies supply solutions for energy, water, and waste management.
