Vietnam Seeks to Upgrade Ties with Canada Amid Growing Global Competition
A diplomat from Vietnam has emphasized the importance of upgrading bilateral relations with Canada, citing significant diplomatic achievements that have laid the groundwork for future development. According to the ambassador, Vietnam's diplomacy has recorded notable successes in enhancing its international profile and implementing a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, and multilateralization.
The two countries share common interests and complementary strengths in areas such as sustainable development, green transition, supply chain security, science-technology, and innovation. Canada is prioritizing the development of energy, critical minerals, artificial intelligence, and high-tech agriculture, while Vietnam is accelerating industrial upgrading and promoting its digital and green economies.
The diplomat highlighted the need for the two countries to translate their commitments into concrete actions across various sectors, including trade, investment, science-technology, and innovation. He recommended prioritizing strategic projects in infrastructure, energy, and green industries, as well as developing new models of cooperation in renewable energy, emissions reduction, and the circular economy.
The ambassador noted that these priorities reflect the complementary strengths of the two economies and provide a strong basis for elevating bilateral relations. The Vietnamese Embassy in Canada has identified upgrading the relationship as its central task this year, with priority areas including trade, investment, green transition, science-technology, economic security, and supply chain connectivity.
