Vietnamese Leader Seeks Maritime Security Boost on Australia-New Zealand Trip
Vietnam's President To Lam embarked on a six-day trip to Australia and New Zealand this week, aiming to bolster partnerships and strengthen cooperation in various areas. The visit is expected to lead to stronger maritime security cooperation between Vietnam and its partners.
During the trip, To Lam will sign 12-16 agreements with Canberra covering education, digital transformation, agriculture, and healthcare. He also spoke about the need for countries to strengthen dialogue, build trust, and ensure security and safety in the region.
Australia's Prime Minister Anthony Albanese welcomed stronger cooperation across defence, maritime, and border security, as well as the digital economy, agriculture, energy, minerals, science, and innovation. He also announced that Vietnam has agreed to provide market access for Australian kangaroo and deer meat, which is expected to generate up to A$500,000 in trade.
In New Zealand, officials anticipate the signing of 5-6 pacts with To Lam, focusing on areas such as food and fibre, education, tourism, technology, aviation, and investment. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon welcomed the strengthening ties between the two nations.
