As Vietnam and New Zealand strengthen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam will lead a high-ranking delegation on a state visit to New Zealand from August 12-14.

This marks the first state visit by a top Vietnamese Party and State leader to New Zealand, reflecting Vietnam's priority for this key partner in the region.

The two countries have made significant strides in bilateral ties since their partnership was elevated to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in February 2025. They are now working towards reaching $3 billion in two-way trade by 2026, with a focus on expanding cooperation in high-tech agriculture, healthcare, education, AI, and the digital economy.

New Zealand is Vietnam's 14th largest trade partner worldwide, with bilateral trade hitting $1.3 billion in both 2023 and 2024, then climbing to roughly $2 billion in 2025.
