Volante Connects FedNow to Ripple, Sparking Debate Over XRP's Role
The Federal Reserve's FedNow payment system has a new connection to Ripple's XRP network, thanks to Volante Technologies.
Volante is a cloud-based payments infrastructure provider that acts as an adapter for financial institutions, allowing them to plug into multiple payment networks simultaneously, including FedNow and Ripple. The company confirmed in 2020 that its platform could settle payments through XRP via its connection with Ripple, and has since become one of the first processors of FedNow transactions.
While this means banks using Volante could potentially use XRP as a settlement asset while also accessing FedNow rails, it's essential to note that there is no official Federal Reserve confirmation that positions XRP as a service provider for FedNow. The connection is technical and optional, and the gap between capability and endorsement remains significant.
The Volante-FedNow narrative has surfaced in crypto media before, with a familiar pattern emerging: real but limited technical relationships get amplified into stories about institutional adoption and government validation. For XRP holders, this highlights both the genuine infrastructure for banks to use XRP if they choose to and the enormous gap between 'theoretically possible' and 'actively used at scale.'
