Wall Street Banks Gear Up for Stablecoin Launch with Dollar-Pegged Token
A major shift in the financial landscape is underway as 21 Wall Street banks are planning to issue a stablecoin pegged to the U.S. dollar, with a target launch date of the first half of 2027.
The consortium, which includes big names like Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Citigroup, and Deutsche Bank, aims to create a company that would issue this new digital token.
Stablecoins are designed to hold a steady value, typically backed one-to-one by a traditional currency like the U.S. dollar, and used for payments, trading, and moving money across borders.
This move is seen as a response to growing competition from tech firms and crypto-native companies that have been pulling payments activity off traditional banking rails.
