Waller Puts August Inflation Data on Hold as Rate Hike Decision Looms
Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller emphasized that inflation data for August will play a crucial role in determining whether he supports keeping interest rates unchanged or raising them at the US central bank's September meeting.
The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) is set to meet on September 15 and 16, and Waller said his decision will be heavily influenced by the August inflation numbers.
If inflation continues to move towards the Fed's 2 per cent goal, he would support keeping the policy rate at its current level. However, if inflation comes in hot, he would consider a rate hike.
