Warsh Eyes Fewer Fed Meetings Amid Elevated Inflation
Kevin Warsh, Federal Reserve Chair, has been working to reduce the market's focus on the central bank since his confirmation. As part of this effort, the Fed is considering reducing the number of meetings held by the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC). The FOMC currently meets eight times a year, a schedule that has remained unchanged since 1981.
This potential change comes after five consecutive years of elevated inflation, which have put additional scrutiny on the central bank. Reducing the number of meetings would be a significant departure from current practice and could help to reduce market dependence on Fed statements.
