Warsh Faces Inflation Dilemma as Fed Weighs Rate Decision

The Federal Reserve is set to make a crucial decision on interest rates as Chair Kevin Warsh faces stubborn US inflation and rising expectations of a rate hike in September.

The Fed is expected to hold its benchmark federal funds rate steady at the current target range of 3.50% to 3.75% for a fifth consecutive meeting, despite a slight cooling of inflation to 3.5% in June.

Warsh has cultivated a reputation as an inflation hawk and has declared that the committee has 'no tolerance for persistently elevated inflation', but has avoided providing clear forward guidance.

Markets are bracing for a potential rate hike in September, with 76% of market participants forecasting a rate increase at the next scheduled meeting, up from 59% just a month ago.
