Warsh Faces Interest Rate Hike Pressure After Hot Inflation Report
The latest inflation report from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics has delivered hotter-than-expected numbers, putting Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh under pressure to hike interest rates next week.
Core consumer price inflation excluding energy and food rose 0.3% last month from the previous month, more than the anticipated 0.2%, while overall consumer inflation measured 3.4%. The core CPI rate climbed 2.4% over the past year, exceeding expectations.
The US central bank's decision to raise interest rates could have far-reaching implications for the economy and financial markets. Chairman Warsh has indicated that reining in price pressures remains a top priority, stating 'we will have work to do' if inflation doesn't subside.
