Warsh Faces No-Win Dilemma as Inflation Keeps Fed on High Alert
Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh is facing a tough decision ahead of the September meeting as inflation remains high and the labor market stays stable.
The latest inflation numbers show that the Consumer Price Index rose 4.2% year-over-year in May, driven by higher energy costs linked to Middle East tensions.
This has put Warsh at odds with the White House, which wants lower borrowing costs and has nominated him to replace Jerome Powell.
Warsh acknowledged that inflation remains elevated during his speech at the Fed's annual Jackson Hole retreat, but declined to say whether the Fed would cut rates at its next meeting.
