Warsh Faces Pressure to Reveal Communications with Trump
A group of Democratic lawmakers is calling on Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh to publicly disclose his communications with President Trump, citing concerns about the central bank's independence from the White House.
The senators, led by Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), pointed to recent reporting that shows Warsh and Trump have spoken 'repeatedly' since Warsh was confirmed in April to replace former Chair Jerome Powell.
The lawmakers noted that while periodic communications with the President and Administration about the state of the economy are not objectionable, the repeated, free-flowing conversations described in the reporting are unprecedented in the modern era and raise serious questions about the Fed's relationship with the White House.
