Warsh Faces Pressure to Reveal Trump Calls Amid Independence Concerns
A group of Democratic lawmakers has written to Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh, urging him to disclose any conversations he has had with President Donald Trump since taking over in May.
The letter, signed by Senators Chris Van Hollen, Jack Reed, Angela Alsobrooks, and Elizabeth Warren, comes amid reports that Trump has periodically spoken by phone with Warsh. The lawmakers argue that effective monetary policy relies on transparency and accountability.
'It is critical that the Fed be transparent about these discussions to demonstrate its independence from the White House,' the letter states.
