Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh hinted that interest rates may need to increase in the coming months to combat inflation, which he considers too high. In a speech at the Fed's annual conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Warsh emphasized that even though inflation has cooled slightly over the last two months, it is still above what the central bank considers acceptable.

Warsh pointed out that more than half of the goods and services tracked in government data have increased in price by 3% or higher over the last year. He highlighted the persistent nature of inflation, which has been sustained for 65 months. Warsh did not explicitly state whether he would support raising rates at next month's Fed meeting.

The speech marked a clear signal from Warsh on his outlook for the economy and monetary policy. A growing list of Fed officials have expressed concerns about inflation and hinted that rate hikes may be necessary to restore price stability. The next Federal Open Markets Committee meeting will take place on September 15-16, and investors are pricing in a higher chance of a quarter-point rate hike.
