Warsh Reignites Rate Hike Fears, Sends Euro Plummeting

Kevin Warsh's speech at the Jackson Hole Symposium has sent shockwaves through the markets, causing the Euro to tumble against the US Dollar. In his remarks, Warsh stressed that the Federal Reserve's top priority should be price stability, prompting investors to increase bets on a September interest-rate hike.

Warsh stated that policymakers have work to do to bring underlying inflation in line with the Fed's 2% Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) target. He also noted that current financial conditions are not restrictive, and credit and loan markets show few signs of monetary policy restraint.

The hawkish-leaning remarks triggered a repricing of Fed expectations, with markets now assigning around a 57% chance to an interest-rate hike at the September meeting. This shift supports the US Dollar, causing it to rally against major currencies, including the Euro.
