Warsh Sets Sights High at Jackson Hole as Investors Seek Clarity on Inflation Strategy
Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh is set to deliver a key speech at the annual gathering of economists and policymakers at Jackson Lake Lodge in Wyoming. Investors are eager for clarity on his strategy to curb stubborn inflation, which has been rising faster than the central bank would like.
Prices have climbed 3.7% in the 12 months ending in July, according to the Fed's preferred yardstick, well above its 2% target. Kathy Bostjancic, chief economist at Nationwide, says she'd like to hear Warsh be more communicative about his views on inflation dynamics.
Warsh has promised to bring prices under control but has been deliberately vague about his plans. Some economists think he will stick with a high-altitude approach in Jackson Hole rather than offer a sea-level forecast of what we can expect from the central bank in the next few months.
