Warsh Signals Potential Rate Rise as Inflation Hits 3.7%
US Federal Reserve chair Kevin Warsh has signaled that interest rates may rise to combat inflation, which is currently at 3.7% and almost double the Fed's 2% target.
In a speech delivered at the annual gathering of central bankers and economists in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Warsh emphasized the importance of meeting the Fed's mandates and stated that 'we have work to do' unless inflationary pressures recede.
Warsh, who was nominated by President Donald Trump, has been under pressure to provide clear guidance on how the Fed plans to tackle rising inflation, which is partly fueled by Trump administration policies.
The speech marks a shift in tone from Warsh's previous stance, as he had previously expressed reluctance to give forward guidance due to global events' volatility.
