Warsh Signals Rate Hikes Possible as US Inflation Remains Elevated
Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh recently expressed concerns about inflation in the US economy. Speaking at the central bank's annual conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, he stated that despite a slight cooling of inflation rates, 'underlying trends have not meaningfully improved.'
Warsh indicated that interest rate hikes may be necessary to combat elevated inflation. He noted that recent reports showed inflation has decreased slightly, but emphasized that this does not guarantee underlying trends are improving.
The Fed Chair emphasized the need for confidence in achieving price stability and full employment. Warsh stated that 'financing conditions didn't look restrictive' to him, implying that monetary policy may still be accommodative.
