Warsh Speech Spikes US Bond Yields as Fed Shifts Communication Strategy
The recent speech by US Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh at Jackson Hole sparked a sharp rise in US Treasury yields and the dollar, putting pressure on assets like equities, gold, silver, Bitcoin, and other cryptocurrencies.
Market experts say this is not the first time this has happened. In June and July, his post-policy meeting press conferences also saw significant rises in US Treasury bond yields.
The tokenisation of US bonds is seen as a major reason for these changes in policy and communication by the Fed. According to Sandeep Pandey, Co-founder of Basav Capital, the US administration wants its bonds to be less regulated and more driven by market sentiments.
Pandey said that investors from emerging economies would see this as an opportunity to invest in US bonds with lower interest rates and leverage money against them.
