Warsh Tackles U.S. Monetary Policy Reforms with Five Task Forces

Fed Chair Kevin Warsh has established five task forces to explore ways to reform U.S. monetary policy, addressing long-standing issues in communication and balance sheet management.

The communications task force will examine how the Fed's current strategy may be hindering its ability to respond to real-time economic data. This could involve adopting a 'reaction function' or 'policy rule' that processes information in real-time, rather than relying on outdated projections.

The balance sheet policy task force will focus on shrinking the Federal Reserve's massive balance sheet, which has grown to 7 trillion dollars and accounts for 21% of GDP. The Fed owns these assets through purchases of securities, but must consider how to manage this enormous liability.
