Warsh Vows Regime Change at the Fed Amid Ongoing Inflation Concerns
Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh has taken a firm stance on inflation control since taking over for Jerome Powell. In his first appearance before Congress, he drew a hard line on inflation, stating that 'the 63 months of inflation above target has been an unfair burden and has been a tax on the American people and businesses.' He emphasized the need for a 'regime change in policy' to address this issue.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 3.5% year over year in June, down from May's 4.2% rate but still above the Fed's 2% target. Warsh has launched five internal task forces designed to rethink how the Fed communicates and defines inflation.
This shift could lead to greater volatility in the bond market and a potential headwind for growth and tech stocks, as Warsh indicated a more hawkish stance moving forward. His decision to pass on submitting an economic projection at the last meeting suggests he wants to approach things from a fresh point of view.
