Warsh Warns Inflation Fight is Far from Over at Jackson Hole
Fed Chair Kevin Warsh emphasized the need for the central bank to tackle inflation at its annual conclave in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He noted that recent US data show a slight decrease in inflation but stressed that underlying trends have not improved sufficiently.
In his first major speech since taking over as Fed chair, Warsh stated that interest rates may need to be raised in the coming months to bring down inflation. However, he clarified that this decision would depend on various factors and not just one indicator.
Warsh also highlighted that short-term interest rates are a key tool for the Fed to lower inflation, which has been above 3% in recent months. He acknowledged the concerns surrounding his approach but reiterated that the central bank's main priority is to control inflation.
