Warsh Warns: Inflation Priority Over Forward Guidance

Kevin Warsh, Chairman of the Federal Reserve, sparked market attention at the Fed's annual conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. In his speech on August 28, he emphasized that inflation remains too high and hinted at a potential interest rate hike if it doesn't come down.

This is not the first time Warsh has addressed the issue of inflation. He has consistently prioritized bringing down inflation to acceptable levels. Posen, President of the Peterson Institute for International Economics, expected this stance from Warsh but felt that he could go wrong by conflating forward guidance with a forecast.

Posen believes it's crucial for the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) to provide a clear forecast on interest rates. He thinks that a forecast is essential in guiding market expectations and helping the economy recover from the current inflationary pressures.
