Warsh Warns of Possible Rate Hike Amid Stubborn Inflation
At the Jackson Hole Economic Symposium in Wyoming, Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh delivered his first keynote address on Friday. He warned of a possible rate hike due to rising inflation but stopped short of making any official announcements.
Warsh expressed confidence in the economy's strength and resilience but noted that underlying trends have not meaningfully improved. 'We must be confident that underlying inflation is moving to our objective, clearly and at sufficient speed,' he said.
The Federal Reserve chairman hinted at possible rate hikes in the coming months to address stubborn inflation rates, which remain above the central bank's 2% target.
