Warsh Warns: Reduced Fed Guidance Will Spark Market Volatility

Kevin Warsh is advocating for the Federal Reserve to reduce its role in guiding markets through forward guidance. This shift would likely lead to increased market volatility and mistakes, as well as criticism that the Fed is losing credibility.

According to Warsh, a lack of forward guidance would result in markets making more incorrect predictions about future rate hikes. In fact, this week's Fed meeting was a prime example: despite core CPI inflation flatlining in June, markets pushed for a hawkish narrative, even as signs mounted that the Fed might not hike rates.

Warsh argues that the inevitable consequence of reduced forward guidance is increased finger-pointing at the Fed. He claims that critics will say the central bank is losing credibility by failing to meet market expectations.
