Warsh's Fed Faces Pressure to Hold Off Rate Hike
Kevin Warsh's divided Federal Reserve may hold off on raising interest rates due to recent inflation data. Since taking over in May, Warsh has faced pressure from President Donald Trump to stimulate the economy with lower rates. However, the labor market is not booming, with wages declining over the last six months and job growth being tepid at best. Inflation remains above the Fed's 2% target, but it has eased in recent months.
Richmond Fed President Thomas Barkin noted that much of the acceleration in inflation has come from shocks to global supply chains, which may not be a long-term issue. The current level of interest rates is still restrictive enough to bring down inflation, according to Barkin.
