Warsh's Hawkish Comments Bolster US Dollar

The US dollar strengthened in response to hawkish comments from Federal Reserve Governor Kevin Warsh. In a speech, Warsh emphasized the need for vigilance against inflation and suggested that the central bank is not planning to cut interest rates soon.

This stance supports the dollar by making US assets more attractive due to higher yields, according to DBS Bank analysts. The market's interpretation of Warsh's comments as supportive for the dollar reflects growing conviction that US interest rates will remain elevated compared to other major economies.

DBS analysts caution, however, that the dollar's strength may be tempered by global risk sentiment and upcoming economic data. If US inflation continues to cool, the Fed might pivot to cuts sooner than markets currently price, which could weaken the dollar.
