Warsh's Hawkish Stance Challenges Wall Street's Record Bull Run
Wall Street has been dominated by bullish sentiment for most of the past four years, but that's changing. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500, and Nasdaq Composite have reached record closing highs since early June, driven by the artificial intelligence boom and stronger-than-expected corporate earnings.
However, mounting headwinds are challenging a historically expensive market, with inflation being the biggest uncertainty. This is compounded by the policy overhaul led by new Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh, who was sworn in on May 22 at the White House.
Warsh has repeatedly pledged that the Federal Open Market Committee would achieve price stability. His hawkish stance became evident during the July 28-29 FOMC meeting, where he emphasized that there is no soft inflation target above the 2% implicit goal.
