Warsh's Hawkish Stance on Inflation Tests Wall Street
Wall Street has been driven by bullish sentiment for most of the past four years, reaching record highs in the Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500, and Nasdaq Composite since early June.
This was largely due to the AI boom and stronger-than-expected corporate earnings. However, mounting headwinds are challenging a historically expensive market, with inflation being the biggest uncertainty.
The policy overhaul led by new Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh is also contributing to the uncertainty.
Warsh, who was sworn in on May 22 at the White House, has repeatedly pledged that the Federal Open Market Committee would achieve price stability.
In a recent FOMC meeting, he emphasized that there is no soft inflation target above the 2% implicit goal.
